Oregon State Law
Oregon State law allows you to take your damaged vehicle to your shop of choice. The insurance company cannot "tell" you where to go.
The reason that insurance companies try to steer you to their "provider" is for cost cutting purposes only. These shops provide discounts and reduce rates. To the insurance company. Not the consumer.
The insurance company does not provide any warranty on the repairs. That is the responsibility of the repair facility.
Must do's if you are in an accident
You are required by state law to provide an accident form to the MVD within 72 hours of the accident if, damage exceeds $2,500.00 or anyone is injured. This report is available on the MVD website. Failure to do so can result in your license being suspended.
You are also protected with your claim for two years from the date of the accident. Should any issues occur during that time period, and they are found to be related to the accident the insurance company will repair these items as part of the original claim.
One item that is very important to parents, if a car seat is in the vehicle during a collision that seat MUST be replaced. Regardless if it was occupied. There is no way to test the integrity of the component. And the level of damage to the vehicle is also not a factor. Any accident.
